The series creator stated during Gamescom that the appearance of future parts of the famous series that has been running for decades on Microsoft's console is not a matter of “if” as much as it is a matter of “when.”
Square Enix announced in the first half of the year that it was breaking away from platform exclusives and moving to a particularly aggressive multiplatform model. For a publisher as big as Square Enix, this could easily mean that smaller titles would be released for everything, but the really big games could enjoy some kind of exemption. Well, it doesn’t seem like it. After several decades, the Final Fantasy series, the publisher’s most popular series, is expected to get a multiplatform release starting with its next installment.
This is also indicated by Yoshi-P's statement that Interviewed by Eurogamer during GamescomAccording to the game creator, the franchise's appearance on platforms such as Xbox Series consoles is not at all ruled out, but is even specifically planned. Regarding Final Fantasy 16, which was released on PC in September, the question has been raised as to why it did not come to Xbox right away, while the MMO episode of the series was also released on Microsoft's console in the spring. According to Yoshi-P, it is only a matter of time, so it is possible that after the successful release on PC, Square Enix may also announce the release of the game on Xbox Series X/S in close cooperation with Xbox.
Whether already published games will receive their own Xbox port is still in doubt, but based on the interview, it's already clear that Final Fantasy 17 will be coming to all platforms at the same time.
