“I am engaged in a lot of things, but I didn’t even dare to think that they could accept me in many universities, so I said that I would not get a rating. “For top universities like Yale, it’s not enough to have good grades. They also look at a lot of other things, for example, how well he takes advantage of the opportunities in the education system, participation in clubs, competitions and other extracurricular activities,” reports Moore, who He managed the university’s application and writing compulsory essays, but even before that, he invested a lot of time and energy in building a kind of portfolio, which made him attractive to American universities. He was president of the school’s student council, and led a club on the United Nations, but after achieving excellent results in several local and international debating competitions, he himself organized competitions to promote a culture of debating, which was otherwise less prevalent in Hungary, and he also visited Senegal in February. He was suffering from Down syndrome and participated in a week-long session with deaf and mute students.
“I’ve always loved driving, participating in clubs, and giving opportunities to other students. All I did for the app was create a portfolio out of it and describe my experiences in my articles. I’ve just lived my life for the past four years and tried to make the best out of it,” he recalls of his past years, affirming several Times that he got the opportunities from his school, for which he is very grateful.
Hard work soon brought results. Columbia University, the eighth best university in the world, sent him a notice: not only was he accepted, but he was also selected for a special program, in which, out of 60,000 applicants, usually only 24-25 people enter. But he received a personal email from a professor at Princeton University, the top of US higher education rankings, which this year rejected both Harvard and Stanford, and the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, while Yale accepts admission. The officer assured him of his support in a handwritten letter and mentioned the opportunities that would be offered to him. So Moore not only got into the best universities in the world, but he could choose among them, which he only had three weeks left.
“Four years is not a short time, so now I’m trying to gather as much information as I can, but I think I’m in the lucky position that I won’t be able to make a bad decision,” he asserts.
By the way, Moore applied not only to American universities but also to English universities. Among other things, he was chosen among the students admitted to King’s College in London, but he also made it to the University of Edinburgh in Scotland, which is also among the best in the world.
“My parents said that if it wasn’t a serious university, I couldn’t go to America because it was too far away and expensive. This way, it was no longer a matter of which continent I would start the academic year on.”
According to him, although he would have been happy to go to England, what impressed him most about American universities was that he did not have to decide about his future right away, having just left high school. In the United States, although you had to choose two or three sympathetic majors, at present students are not accepted in a particular major, but in the universities themselves, who have to decide in their second year exactly what they want to graduate from.
“There, the focus is on the student learning as many things as possible, seeing as many different subjects as possible. I think now I would like to study economics, but at the same time I’m also interested in business and politics, so anything is possible.”
Although it is accepted in many famous American universities, there are currently only three institutions; He vacillates between Princeton, Yale and Columbia, these schools separately approaching him to persuade him; Choose them.
Back to Europe?
Although Mórt is very happy to be able to spend the next four years in America, for the moment he believes that after graduating from university, he does not want to settle there for the long term, but would rather bring the knowledge he gained there to Hungary or Europe.
“I have always lived in Hungary and would love to live here. America is also good, but you can only hear good things about it, it’s just not like it was 40-50 years ago, you can have everything there, there are all chances. Living is much more difficult, It is also very expensive and there are many political controversies, and many people hate each other, so the good life is not necessarily there. On the one hand, I know I will fit in easily, live well, and succeed in Europe,” though he does not rule out on The launch that he will spend more time in the United States.
I don’t rule out staying there for a few years, but at the same time, the plan is that I will be able to do something with my education in Hungary, to be successful here. I’m sure of that, and America is a big question mark
