In the new South Korean series “Frog,” a peaceful summer day is suddenly interrupted when the owner of a guesthouse in the woods welcomes a mysterious young woman. Then trouble begins.
This eight-episode, one-hour Netflix series, which will premiere on August 23, is directed by Mo Wan-il, known for his hit series “The World of the Married.”
“Frog” stars veteran actor Kim Yoon-seok (“Noryang: Deadly Sea,” “Escape From Mogadishu”) as Young-ha, the guesthouse owner, and Go Min-se as the dangerous guest. This role is very different from the one he played in “Sweet Home,” which just aired its third and final season on Netflix. Last year, he starred in the hit movie “Smugglers” and in 2021, he also starred in the action drama “Jirisan.”
Yoon Kye-sang (The Outlaws) plays Sang-jun, a man who was in the same vacation home twenty years ago but lost everything after a guest arrived. Lee Jung-eun (“Miss Night and Day,” “Daily Dose of Sunshine,” “Parasite”) plays an intuitive police officer who investigates Young-ha and Sang-jun.
The series was created by SSL and Studio Flow. Its original Korean title translated into English is “In the Woods with No One”.
“The Frog” follows other Korean thriller series on Netflix, such as “The Bequeathed” directed by Yeon Sang-ho (“Train to Busan”) and “A Killer Paradox” starring Choi Woo-shik (“Parasite”) and Son Suk-ku (“DP”). Later this year, Netflix will release “The Trunk,” starring Gong Yoo (“Goblin,” “Squid Game”), which uncovers the dark secrets of a secret dating service.
