There were no surprises in the Goalball Quarterfinals at the Pan American Games – Santiago 2023 in terms of results, but the semi-final brackets are adding to the heat of the moment! Both in men’s and women’s competitions.
Starting with the men’s tournament, a semifinal between the United States and Canada could open up the possibility of reaching Paris 2024 if Brazil is the other finalist. Brazil has already qualified through the World Championship slot (gold medal), which means that even if Brazil becomes American champion, the continental slot will receive the silver medal at Santiago 2023.
In the women’s competition for Paris 2024, the most important semi-final will be between Brazil and Canada. In this case, only the American champion will be able to get a ticket to the next Paralympic Games, but both national teams (Brazil and Canada) aim to achieve this goal, and only one can go to the final.
The Brazilian women’s national team reached the “semi-finals” by defeating the Peruvian national team, which achieved its best performance in all games! The five Andean stars scored more goals in their last match (5) than in all the remaining matches of the competition (4).
Even before the finals, Santiago will have the attention of the goalball world following all the action at the Paralympic Sports Center in Chile’s National Stadium.
