Both devices have a high brightness (up to 3,000 nits) and a Super Actua LTPO display that offers a refresh rate ranging from 1 to 120 Hz and is protected by Gorilla Glass Victus 2. The Pixel 9 Pro has a resolution of 1,280 x 2,856 pixels, while the Pixel 9 Pro XL offers a resolution of 1,344 x 2,992 pixels.
In the Pixel 9 series, the optical fingerprint reader has been replaced with an ultrasonic sensor, which is 50% faster. The new ultrasonic sensors can recognize fingerprints without flashing light and are generally more reliable.
Both phones have flat sides and a shiny metal frame that contrasts with the matte finish of the back. The devices are identical in terms of design, differing only in size, and have a triple camera system on the back.
The main camera on the Pixel 9 Pro and 9 Pro XL uses a 50MP 1/1.31-inch wide-angle sensor, complemented by two 48MP cameras: an ultrawide lens and a 5x optical zoom lens. The front camera is 42MP, and will likely use Samsung's 50MP 3J1 sensor.
Powering the devices is the Tensor G4 chipset, a 4nm unit with 16GB of RAM and storage ranging from 128GB to 1TB. One big change to the Tensor G4 is the announced Exynos 5400 modem, which is said to offer better efficiency. The Pixel 9 Pro has a 4,700mAh battery, while the Pixel 9 Pro XL has a 5,060mAh battery, both of which support 45W fast charging, with charging to 70% taking 30 minutes.
Google’s Gemini AI plays a significant role in the Pixel 9 Pro series. You can ask Gemini to give you cooking ideas based on a photo of the contents of your fridge, while Magic Editor can remove distractions from photos and even create an entire landscape in the photo — think dramatic sunsets where a dull one is.
Pixel Screenshots uses Gemini software to identify the content in all your screenshots, so you can use it to retrieve the information they contain.
The search circle is also available on the Pixel 9 Pro — just press and hold the navigation bar at the bottom, then search for anything on the screen to bring up Google results. Google is promising 7 years of Pixel Drops for the Pixel 9 series.
The new Google Pixel 9 Pro series is available in four colors: Obsidian, Hazel, Rose Quartz, and Porcelain. The Pixel 9 Pro XL will hit stores on August 22, while the Pixel 9 Pro will hit stores on September 4 in the US and September 9 in Europe.
Prices start at €1,099 for the Pixel 9 Pro and €1,199 for the Pixel 9 Pro XL. Discounts are also available for a limited time, with savings of up to €200 on models with more storage.
