The IDF may launch a ground invasion into the Gaza Strip tonight with the aim of completely destroying Hamas:
Hamas recently released a video showing how it plans to attack Israeli army mechanized infantry units entering Gaza.
The footage shows Hamas fighters emerging from their dug-in bunkers, then opening fire on a convoy of Merkava tanks and Tiger armored personnel carriers using an RPG-7 rocket-propelled grenade launcher equipped with a cumulative warhead. The disabled vehicles are then raided, their crews captured, and the armored vehicles blown up with grenades. Then the jihadists disappear back into the tunnel system.
Most likely in the video Models designed for training, not real Israeli armored personnel carriers, appear. The people playing the role of Israeli soldiers are members of Hamas.
The video is very amazing, but in real life it will not be easy for the Islamists, for the following reasons:
- The vehicles will be moving and they will shoot at them with unguided weapons, so a hit will be almost certain
- Unlike the prototypes, real Merkavas and Namers will fight back.
There is also information that the Israeli military already has Lidar scanners that can be used to map Hamas’ tunnel systems.
Incidentally, Hamas also published a video showing how the cumulative rockets used in the recording were manufactured:
