HBCUs Winning! Receive Funding From Congress, Not White House
Historically Black Colleges & Universities (HBCU) have received increased funding as hoped for but the money did not come from a White House push. The push was through Congress according to Congressional Black Caucus Chairman Cedric Richmond (D-LA). Congressional leaders say this budget has been in process for over a year.
How Did HBCUs Win
The Current CR includes more money for summer Pell grants, money to preserve buildings on HBCU campus’ 8 or so million for that. They also added to the Trio Program and Gear Up Program on college campus’ (one by 15 million and one by 17 million). Congressional Black Caucus Chairman Cedric Richmond stated: “We increased funding for HBCU’s so they come out of this budget process as big winners.”

Just last week @hbcucollective meet with over 35 Congressional leaders asking them to support this bill and our initiatives. Their efforts alone did push the CR through but they played a pivotal role in being a part of the solution and bringing awareness to our issues.
