When the first data emerged that Netflix had gained a record number of new subscribers following the campaign, it was expected that other streaming providers would also restrict password sharing. The first related development has arrived, HBO Max has updated its terms of use, and you wouldn’t guess what it says…
When Netflix began eliminating password sharing worldwide, there were many dissatisfied voices and there were those who canceled the service because of it, but according to a recent study, this was more than made up for by new subscribers. In the USA, a record number of new users are said to have been registered in a short time, most of whom were supposed to have previously used other accounts, but due to stress, had their “free” access terminated.
After this news came out, Netflix’s stock value also rose, which means that the company seems to have done well in the tightening process. This would have made HBO Max happy, as the competing service provider updated its terms of use a few days ago, and the following details can now be read in it:
We may limit the maximum number of authorized users using the Platform at the same time, and we will inform you of this limitation through the Platform. Authorized users are limited to members of your household.”
We may change the maximum number of simultaneous streams and/or limit the number of devices you can use at any time, including (i) limiting the effect of account sharing outside of your household or if we reasonably believe that your HBO Max account has been mistreated. “
We don’t have any information yet on whether those who watch HBO Max will be banned with a different password, but the Terms of Use update certainly indicates that this could happen in the future.
