How does Game Pass impact Treyarch's development process?

How does Game Pass impact Treyarch's development process?

Since Treyarch is also affiliated with Microsoft following the Redmond tech giant's acquisition of Activision Blizzard King, it was only a matter of time before the Game Pass launcher was pulled.

Call of Duty, which has achieved record sales so far, is already taking a risky step this year, as this year's edition will be available on Xbox Game Pass straight from its release. But how does this affect development? Yale Miller, senior director of development at Treyarch, explained this in detail in an interview with VGC.

“We didn't even know about Game Pass for a long time. It was something we questioned whether it would happen or not. From the beginning, when it came to Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, we strongly believed that players had not played a Black Ops game in a long time.” About Zombies is a big epic experience with huge quest lines and a great story; there are a lot of players who won't know this, having never played a turn-based zombie experience so how do we teach this to people who have the basics of multiplayer and action? So we were thinking about how to bring players in from the beginning.

Since we discovered Game Pass, we've been rethinking these things. Hopefully more players than ever will at least try. We think we've made a great game that's fun to play and really offers a variety of experiences for different players. So how do we explain to players how to “get in,” how to experience it, how to find the fun that's right for them, and how to explain that this mode is about this and that and that. There are also team modes in multiplayer and a lot of other things that we do, so how do we explain to players who may not have played Call of Duty before that “here are the different offerings and here are the modes,” Miller said, “how they can access them.”
