Hundreds of millions of emails and passwords were leaked

It's about two billion lines of data, much of which has never been seen on the Internet before.

He said that more than 361 million unique email addresses of users were leaked from various Telegram channels, of which 151 million had never been exposed online before. Troy Huntthe cybersecurity expert behind leak list site Have I Been Pwned (HIBP), posted on his blog.

In addition to emails, there are also passwords for users, and in many cases also the platforms on which they are used. The expert tested the codes on several sites and found that it was a real, widespread leak. The list mostly includes data obtained via phishing methods.

That's a total of 122 GB of data, which may not seem like much at first, but it's worth keeping in mind that text files usually take up little space.

In this case, we're talking about more than 1,700 files containing nearly 2 billion lines of information. Usually one line contains the page title, email address and password for the user account there. It was extracted from hundreds of Telegram channels by a cybersecurity expert before being sent to Hunt.

On his blog, the expert detailed the process of verifying the leak, as well as the reaction of his followers when he informed them that their login data had been leaked. According to Troy Hunt, to avoid such situations, it is especially important to use unique passwords, password managers that manage them, and use two-step authentication.
