Hungarians stranded in Gaza passed through two of the three checkpoints when they were returned for security reasons

We are in constant contact with the 15 Hungarian citizens stranded in the Gaza Strip, including parents and children. Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjártó announced on Monday that the Hungarian government is working to ensure that those affected can be transported to safety within the framework of an international agreement.

“We are working on international cooperation, action and agreement that would make this possible for everyone, but clearly the most important thing for us is that the 15 Hungarians who want to be safe and, if appropriate, want to leave Gaza, should do so.” “. Will they be able to do that?

Szijjarto confirmed that part of the group almost succeeded in doing this once. According to his information, those wishing to leave Gaza through the Rafah border crossing towards Egypt must pass through three checkpoints, and they had already passed through two when they were finally returned for security reasons.

Szijjarto said that at that time he also spoke with his Egyptian colleague, and that Cairo gave permission to those concerned to enter the country, but unfortunately they did not reach the point where this was financially possible. “This happened a long time ago, more than ten days ago, so I don’t think I’m putting anyone at risk by talking about it now,” the minister said.
