I wish | Do you have an Intel processor?

I wish | Do you have an Intel processor?

Intel introduced the P and E cores with the 12th generation. In many cases, this really helps, but in the case of games, unfortunately, there can be more disadvantages.

11/19/2023 – Within the framework of the twelfth generation, Intel radically reviewed the architecture of its processors. Whereas previously the cores beneath the cap were quite uniform, Alder Lake has now completely separated from this. Intel divided the cores into two groups. the sCores (Performance) covers powerful but high consumption cores, while H(Efficiency) Slightly slower units but very energy efficient. In the most popular i5 and i7 processors of the last three generations, we can find a combination of these.

Intel packs many more cores into its processors

This is why we see descriptions “8P+8E” next to processors. This means that 8 performance cores and 8 efficiency cores are hidden in the selected processor. AP cores are HT-capable, i.e., they cover two threads, while E cores only cover one in each case. If we stick to the example above, an Intel 8P+8E processor with 16 physical cores, but with 24 threads, is available for Windows, since the number of threads would be 8*2+8. Windows must work with these themes during everyday life. You must decide which task goes to which kernel. However, it is not always possible.

Intel owners get a great benefit

Windows 11 already has a more advanced task scheduler, but it still often happens that it does not assign tasks correctly. Such operations are performed on the weaker E cores, which favor the stronger P cores. This can lead to a noticeable drop in FPS for games, for example. Intel’s APO solution, unveiled not long ago, provides a solution to this problem, but for some reason the company has limited it to the 14th generation.

However, CoreDirector is also available for 12th and 13th generation owners. With the help of the application, we can determine how many cores each program should use and how many. In many cases, games thank you for disabling E-cores, giving the user a more enjoyable frame rate. Project Lasso also worked on a similar principle, but CoreDirector got a much simpler interface, as you can see above. The application already exists available From the official website, it’s definitely worth a try if you’re unhappy with the performance you’ve experienced in games. The app is completely free, but it is not known how effective individual anti-cheat solutions can be, so it pays to use it carefully and, last but not least, at your own risk.
