Pokemon Sleep uses your phone’s accelerometer or MEMS-based accelerometer sensors to track your sleep. The accelerometer is a new technology that is integrated into all new generation smartphones and combines mechanical and electrical components.
The system also measures continuous motion, such as tilts and vibrations. These forces act on the device in three axes, the x, y, and z axes, in meters per second squared (m/s2). This is one of the reasons why you should put your phone face down next to your pillow.

However, the app only keeps these recordings for 24 hours, or until you fall asleep again, so your vomit doesn’t end up in a digital cloud forever. I mean, maybe not.
