The popular video sharing site has just added a cool new feature, but not everyone can enjoy it.
While the content of the videos isn’t as good, the resolution has been slightly improved by YouTube’s latest innovation, the bitrate boost that was announced a couple of months ago but has already been in testing since February. This new feature is only available to premium subscribers, who can now enjoy videos in better quality than usual.
You don’t have to do anything special for this, just start the selected content, and YouTube will take care of the rest in the background. Thanks to the increased bit rate, videos played in 1080p will be more beautiful, crisp, clear and continuous than ever before, which is what most people will experience in sports and video game content.
Until now, the increased bitrate was only present on Apple devices, but today it seems to have made its way to Android (and Google TV) apps. Since the transition is fully automatic, Premium subscribers will switch to 1080p Enhanced quality by default if they choose that resolution. On the other hand, those who use the video sharing software for free can see the new option above the usual one.

However, for the avoidance of doubt, it’s important to note that 1080p is still available to everyone, whether you pay for YouTube or not. The change just means that future Premium members will get better service – which the platform also highlights separately.
