Many players agreed that the character was more likeable than AD Carry.
Graves was not originally a jungle player or an ADC wheel, but an ADC, also a fairly popular type. That’s why it came as a huge surprise when Riot Games steered him in a new direction, simultaneously pushing his original role into oblivion. From time to time a nostalgic post pops up on the larger LoL forums, and Graves was also a topic on Reddit a few months ago.
I feel very sad now that the current players have not tried and will not try the old Graves. I truly believe this hero would be a very popular ADC pick to this day had he never changed to jungle.

“The gameplay of the old Graves was much smoother and more fun,” said the author of the post on March 30. He specifically noted that he preferred how the Graves E worked before the rework.
At that time, Graves’ E allowed you to dash in the chosen direction and then gain additional attack speed for a short time. In fact, the shrapnel (projectile) mechanism was also missing from his kit, so you could tear the opponent apart with automatic attacks all day long.
Graves’ automatic attacks and the extra attack speed from his E were the main reasons for his role in the game. Before it migrated into the woods with its rework, the Outsider was basically an AD Carry. Due to the limitations and spread of auto attacks, it is now almost impossible to use him effectively in this role.
Many players agreed that Graves was more likeable than AD Carry. It was disappointing to many (myself included) to see Riot Games give him a different role.
