Nine people were injured by an out-of-control driver early Monday morning in Manhattan after plowing his car into people on their way home from New Year's Eve celebrations, police said. New York Post.
The incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. a few blocks from the party in Times Square, at the corner of 7th Avenue and West 34th Street. According to an eyewitness, the area was crowded with revelers and police, many of whom were on their way home from the party.
The 44-year-old suspect allegedly got into an altercation with someone. When the police tried to intervene, the fugitive jumped into the car and drove away from the scene. Meanwhile, he crashed into several police cars, drove onto the sidewalk, and struck six pedestrians and a police officer. The fleeing driver also collided with a food delivery truck, and as a result another 39-year-old woman was trapped under the truck, police said. The taxi driver, Sheikh Miloun, was also injured.
According to Mellon, the maniac crashed into at least three cars and deliberately tried to run over the police. “He refused to get out of the car. They tried to get him out several times, but he didn't want to get out.”
All the injured were taken to hospital and are in stable condition. The rabid runner was also taken to hospital and suffered serious injuries. Police said the suspect was charged on Monday morning.
