The head of the ministry indicated that his ministry’s decree came into effect on Monday, and it lists the professions, industries and organizations whose employees are required to take the vaccine. They are employees of the central executive authorities and their regional bodies, local public administrations and their departments, educational institutions. Employees of listed institutions who have not received the first dose of the vaccine by November 8 will be suspended without pay until they receive the vaccine. However, employees for whom vaccination is prohibited and who have a medical certificate cannot be stopped.
In an affidavit, he told Gasko that 31 million doses of the vaccine have been delivered to Ukraine so far. Over the weekend, 2 million 930 thousand doses of Moderna’s vaccine arrived in the country through the international COVAX initiative, in addition to 1.4 million doses of Pfizer’s vaccine, purchased by the government at the expense of the state budget.
According to the minister, to date, 36.7 percent of the Ukrainian population has received the first dose and 25.6 percent have received the second dose. Vaccination remains highest in the capital, Kiev, where 57 percent of the population has taken the first dose of the vaccine and 45.7 percent are fully protected.
He explained to Gasko that vaccinations have already saved more than 5.5 thousand lives.
Yuri Hanichenko, head of the Kiev School of Economics (KSE), predicted in a statement on the RBK-Ukraine news portal on Monday that the epidemic would peak in Ukraine in the first half of November, in the middle of the month. According to him, the number of daily infections will increase even more in the coming days. However, according to the Ukrainian Health Center of the Ministry of Health, the epidemic may reach its peak this week, UNIAN news agency reported.
