A bear attacked a person again in Hargita County in Transylvania, in the area of the settlement of Csatószeg, the MTI news agency reported, citing the Agerpres news agency. Hunters shot the dangerous animal, and this was the second such attack in ten days.
On Friday morning, the wild animal attacked a 51-year-old man in the settlement area of the village of Shikszentsimohn.
The man suffered several bites to his face, arm and leg, and his jaw was broken, but he is in a stable condition, said Peter Szilard, head of the Hargitay County Ambulance Service. He is being treated at the Csíkszereda County Emergency Hospital.
The man went to pick mushrooms with his daughter on a horse-drawn cart when they were attacked by a bear, Istvan Kuzma, the mayor of the city of Csikszentmihalyi, told the Mazol news portal. The farmer, who was frightened by his horse, jumped out of the cart and was injured by the big game.
The foreman summoned the relevant committee, accompanied by gendarmes, a veterinarian and a hunter, and they headed to the scene of the incident, where they found the animal and shot it. He pointed out that this was the second incident of its kind within a 500-meter radius in ten days.
He may have attacked the mushroom picker before.
On August 14, another man who was also mushroom picking was attacked by a wild animal in the area, and the victim was taken to hospital with multiple injuries.
Hunters believed that the bear itself was the attacker.
The current victim needed surgery, oral surgeon Csaba Isak, who performed the intervention, told the Hargitay Nepi district newspaper on Friday.
The victim suffered a facial bone fracture with multiple tissue loss, the jaw was also broken, and the wild animal had skinned the right side of his face. He is out of danger, but his condition is serious and his quality of life will be significantly affected. In Romania, bears have attacked people in several Transylvanian counties in recent weeks. In early July, a 19-year-old girl lost her life after being attacked by a wild animal on a popular hiking trail in the Bucskes Mountains.
