Both aircraft carriers were put into service only a few years ago, but this is already the second major failure. A year and a half ago, the Prince of Wales's plane crashed off the Isle of Wight, and he was unable – also due to engine problems – to participate in a US-Canadian-British military exercise.
According to the British Ministry of Defense, there is no connection between the two incidents.
The armed forces of 31 NATO member states and Sweden will take part in a NATO military exercise dubbed “Steadfast Defender,” scheduled to be held from February to May, with the participation of about 90,000 soldiers.
