A cat that wandered onto a construction site may have flooded a city building in the Netherlands after accidentally turning on a water tap. Workers did not notice the leak, so the building eventually became so wet that part of the walls and floor had to be replaced.
A cat may have flooded the Dokkum municipal building in the Netherlands, causing damage worth 325,000 euros, or about 125 million forints, MTI reported.
According to local TV report Omrup Fryslan, the cat was spotted during construction work in May last year. Since it could not be contained, the building was temporarily closed. However, this was not a good idea, as the cat had apparently accidentally turned on the water tap, causing water to seep into the walls unnoticed. The water eventually caused such severe damage that part of the walls and floors had to be replaced.
Mayor Bert Konstra introduced the renovation bill at Thursday night's municipal meeting, but as a reassurance he announced that the insurance company would cover the damage.
And with that, we can finally close this cat case
The mayor added.
It was not possible to prove that the animal was really the culprit, so it is also possible that the cat that was curious at the construction site was innocently accused.
