The five Bulgarian citizens, Orlen Rusev, Bezer Dzambazov, Ekaterina Ivanova, Ivan Stoyanov, and Vania Gabirova, are believed to have conspired with Russia to collect information for them.
They have now been remanded in custody.
Their mission was to monitor targets identified by the Russians, which could be people and locations. The five defendants denied their activities, and only confirmed their identities to the British court.
