Index – Abroad – Fighting renewed and the Sudanese capital is on fire

According to footage posted on social media and verified by Agence France-Presse, many tourist attractions in the city caught fire, including the famous Grand Nile Petroleum Company tower.

Residents in the Sudanese capital reported that new violent clashes broke out on Saturday between the warring parties. It was said that the army launched an artillery attack on militia bases in the Mago area, while the latter launched a counterattack on the army headquarters.

In Sudan, an armed conflict broke out in mid-April between Sudanese President Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces led by former Vice President Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo.

In Sudan, 5.2 million people have been forced to flee their homes since the beginning of the conflict, and at least 7,500 people have died so far, according to a conservative estimate by the Armed Conflict Location and Event Data Project, a non-governmental organization.
