Since Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle have left the British royal family, they have hardly visited the royal court. The American couple announced in early 2020 that they would be stepping down from their royal activities. Soon, they moved to the United States. Prince Harry has now revealed that they feel unable to return to the UK unless they are given police protection.
The royal couple’s legal representative in Sussex released a statement saying that Prince Harry “inherited a life-threatening security risk at birth” so he cannot travel home without police protection.
The city and country Prince Harry says he is paying a private security team anyway, but lawyers say more protection is needed in the UK because his family has been “threatened by neo-Nazi and extremist threats”.
Lawyers warned the UK’s Supreme Court in September to reconsider a decision that the government would not provide protection for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle and their children, Archie and Lillibet.
When Prince Harry first offered to pay for police protection in January 2020 at Sandringham, it was turned down. They added that the prince would still be willing to bear the cost of security so that it would not be borne by British taxpayers.
