A McDonald’s employee also confirmed to the Sarajevo Times that the last fast food restaurant closed on the last day of 2022, Saturday. In the days before that, people were standing in long lines to eat at the restaurant again, for the last time.
the paper remind me To the fact that the first McDonald’s restaurant opened in the country in 2011. To date, they have a total of five restaurants in Bosnia and Herzegovina: three of them are in Sarajevo and two are in Mostar.
Last December, it became apparent that the restaurants were in dire financial straits. According to the local press, for example, a restaurant has accumulated debts of half a million euros, which is why a court ruling has already been issued that the commercial building must be evacuated and returned to the owner due to arrears of payments.
Soon after, all restaurants had their operating licenses revoked. Experts summarized the situation as follows
McDonald’s operated simply and at prices too exorbitant to be achievable in the Bosnian environment.
It is also no coincidence that in Bosnia and Herzegovina there are many restaurants selling traditional fried meat dishes (sivabe, kebab, etc.), which presents strong competition to McDonald’s.
