“We have now been able to lay the foundations for effective British-Hungarian cooperation based on mutual respect in the post-UK withdrawal from the European Union,” Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjarto said in London.
According to the MTI report, the minister attended the inauguration of the new building of the Hungarian Consulate, where he said: Europe is currently going through a critical period, and the whole continent must face serious challenges.
We get a lot of bad news and face a lot of difficulties every day. This position values friendships, predictable relationships and stable partnerships, such as the relationship between the UK and Hungary
– said Peter Szijjártó.
The Minister also spoke about the fact that British companies make up the sixth largest investor community in Hungary. More than eight hundred companies employ about 55,000 people.
In his words, “In the spirit of mutual respect, Hungary was perhaps the only EU member state that did not suspend or qualify the outcome of the Brexit referendum.”
Peter Szijjarto noted that the value of bilateral trade approached almost five billion euros for the first time last year, a limit that will likely be reached this year as well.
According to his information, cooperation between the two countries in the field of nuclear energy will also continue, so that there is no negative discrimination, and the definition of the energy mix can remain within the national competences.
