We previously reported that Peter Szijjártó, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, revealed after a meeting of Parliament’s Economic Committee that five Hungarian hostages are currently in Gaza following the October 7 attack by Hamas.
At that time, the Foreign Minister also announced that it was currently known that there were fifteen people with Hungarian citizenship in the Gaza Strip, who, along with thousands of other foreign nationals, could not leave the area at the moment. They do not know that there is a dead person who holds Hungarian citizenship.
Peter Szijjártó has now announced that in order to free the five Hungarian hostages, the Hungarian government is in constant contact with the Israeli government task force created for this purpose. The Minister of Foreign Affairs made a phone call with the Qatari Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Sultan bin Saad Al-Marajki, and reviewed with him the security situation in the region.
I told the colleague that we knew five people, some of whom had Hungarian citizenship, who were currently still in captivity, and I asked him to help release them.
– said Peter Szijjarto.
According to the Hungarian Foreign Minister, his Qatari counterpart praised bilateral relations and promised to mediate the release of the Hungarian hostages.
We provided the names of the hostages, and Zoltan bin Saad Al Marajki assured us that as soon as they obtained valuable information, it would be made available to us immediately. We are grateful to Qatar and the Qatari government for their assistance
