The Russian Defense Ministry announced the military exercise on Thursday, but did not specify exactly when it would start or how long it would last. This is the fourth joint military exercise in which the two countries have participated.
TASZSZ added that the two sides will participate in the drills with exactly which units. The operation, called Freedom Edge, is the first between the two countries to use air, naval, cyber and submarine units.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Mao Ning said the three countries, which have previously conducted the drills, are intensifying conflicts and undermining strategic security with other countries in the region. Earlier this week, the two countries already conducted a cross-border counter-terrorism operation.
The current joint Russian-Chinese exercises were announced just days after Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping met in the Kazakh capital, Astana, at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit.
