Britain’s Home Office did not disclose the cost of the ads, but announced that the campaign that begins next week in Albania will also show the dangers refugees may face on small roads, MTI reported.
A record number of people crossed the English Channel last year, and more than six thousand have been spotted so far in 2023. The Home Office says Albania is a safe and prosperous country and many citizens travel through several countries before arriving in the UK and filing false asylum applications.
Until March this year, Albanian nationals were the most frequent applicants for asylum in the UK: 13,714 applications were submitted, of which 9,487 came across the English Channel.
Immigration Minister Robert Jenrick said:
Organized migration crime is a global challenge that requires international solutions along the entire migration pathway. This includes being proactive at source before people embark on dangerous and unnecessary journeys.
We are determined to stop the boats and the campaign launched in Albania this week is just one part of the Home Office’s work to dispel myths about illegal travel to the UK and explain the reality.
