Index – Abroad – The Prime Minister announced a huge figure: two-thirds of Hungarian Romanians left abroad

On Thursday, Marcel Ciulacu spoke about this phenomenon at a business conference targeting Romanians living abroad. He pointed out that more than 3 million Romanians immigrated between 2008 and 2022 alone.

From his point of view, although there is no precise data on Romanians living abroad, and analysts also work with different estimates, but

If we add the 1.2 million people who immigrated from Moldova, their number is now close to 6.5 million.

As he said, this is a huge loss, even if Romanians living abroad send an amount equivalent to 2 percent of GDP, i.e. 6.5 billion euros, to Romania to support their family members left behind.

We are losing not only added value, but also the future of Romania, as young people who work and develop abroad today start families abroad.

– The Prime Minister noted, noting that the average age of the Romanian community living in Great Britain, Italy and Spain can be determined between 31 and 33 years.

He added that the doctors have already returned

The Prime Minister also spoke about the fact that “one of the safest countries in Europe, today safer than Great Britain, Italy or Spain”, where large Romanian communities live, represents a great opportunity for Romania. According to the Prime Minister, it is not enough to support the return of Romanians living in emigration with money, the political stability created by the grand coalition government in the last few years is also important.

Marcel Ciulaku described it as encouraging that last year was the first year in which 190,000 Romanians living abroad returned to their homeland – among them many doctors, so the country, according to him, was able to stop the exodus of doctors.
