A former Ukrainian intelligence chief and a German comrade have been arrested in southern Serbia on suspicion of money laundering. The two men tried to cross the border with more than 600,000 euros, 120,000 dollars and two emeralds in their car, which was not reported, Jotarangi Croatian daily newspaper.
The Serbian Interior Ministry said on Wednesday that border police said
€607,990, $124,924 in cash and two valuable emeralds were found at the Presevo border crossing.
Naumov and his partner could face up to 12 years in prison. Andrei Naumov joined the Ukrainian intelligence in 2019 and was appointed head of the Internal Security Department for two years.
