Index – Abroad – US Coast Guard releases video of Titan submarine remains

The US Coast Guard has released new video of the remains of the Titan submarine, The Guardian reports. Sky NewsFootage was taken of the submarine at the bottom of the sea at a depth of more than 3,700 meters.

As Index reported, five people lost their lives last June when they dived to the wreck of the Titanic in the North Atlantic Ocean with the submarine called Titan.

British adventurer Hamish Harding, Sazada and Suleiman Daoud, Frenchman Paul-Henri Nargeolet, and Stockton Rush, director of the submarine's manufacturer, were travelling on the submarine, which exploded due to ocean pressure during the expedition.

Footage released by the U.S. Coast Guard on Thursday shows the submarine's tail cone, aft dome, aft ring, hull remains and carbon fiber debris.

The nearly two-week investigation into the OceanGate Expeditions 2023 disaster began Monday in the United States, which will include listening to communications between the submarine and its accompanying ship, the Polar Prince, and reviewing documents from the underwater vehicle.

They testified against the company.

The company’s former chief operating officer told the committee earlier this week that the submarine was too risky and that the company was only focused on profit. David Lochridge also painted a bad picture of the company’s founder, Stockton Rush, saying that “all hell has broken loose” and that he had a “total disregard for safety.”

OceanGate’s chief scientific officer, Stephen Ross, and Renata Rojas, the company’s mission expert, are expected to testify Thursday. The company halted operations after the disaster and currently has no full-time employees. The company is being represented by an attorney at the U.S. Coast Guard hearing.
