Those who regularly follow the events of Hungarian theatrical life, probably noticed that the name of the theater has changed. Soul Theater is now PSOTA IRÉN’s creative workshop and mental center. We’ve also grabbed our heads, so we got curious about it,
- What can it mean to change the name and profile at the same time,
- What does mental center mean in practice,
- And whether the Soul Theater could use the name Irene Bsuta?
This last question turns out to be more complicated than we initially thought.
Janos Burgess On October 6, 2022, he happily announced on his social media page that the index had contacted him and told him why he named his creative workshop Irene Bsota, and he received permission from the family – later, elsewhere, he also uses the term heirs.
Two weeks later, he threatened our newspaper that if we publicly dealt with the choice of name, there would be consequences. He categorically brought to our attention that the contents of his reply message, in which he responded to index inquiries, are confidential, we cannot cite anything from them, nor do we contribute to any kind of publication.

Looks like the message is gone
János Perjés did all this knowing that Index contacted the Psota Irén Foundation to see if they knew that János Perjés Theater — more precisely the soul, now also a creative workshop and mental center — bears the Irén Psota name.
We turned to the Foundation because, at the request of Irene Bsutta’s legal heirs, this organization cherishes the memory of the two-time Kossuth Award-winning actor, Representative of the Nation. In their reply message – which we will provide verbatim below – they explained that they had not received the request for permission to use the name, and therefore did not consent to the use of the name.
It was also written that the director of the Soul Theater was asked in a letter
“Suspend offensive insults with immediate effect.”
Then we called János Perjés again, and told him of the position of the establishment, but the manager was not in any way as friendly as he had been when we first contacted him, and his answer was indeed what we wrote above: he clearly drew our attention to the fact that the content of his reply letter that he asked In it the index answered it, the correspondence is confidential, we cannot cite anything from it, and it does not contribute to any kind of publication.
Dear editor!
We gratefully accepted index.hu’s inquiry, in which they noted that Spirit Theater had recently been operating as “Spirit PSOTA IRÉN’s Creative Workshop and Mental Center”. We were asked if we were aware of this and who could give permission for an organization to use the name Irene Bsota.
We didn’t know about it. The Psota Irén Foundation honors the two-time Kossuth Award-winning actor at the request and on behalf of the legal heirs of Irén Psota. We contacted the attorney representing the legal heirs, who informed us that they had not received the request for permission to use the name, so they did not consent to the use of the name. In a letter, they called on the head of the Spirit Theater to make it available to them in a reliable way, that is, to support him with documents, from which he obtained permission, and even then “to suspend the use of the offending name with immediate effect.” At the same time, they informed him in writing that “the memory of the immortal artist is concerned with the Sota Irene Foundation, so the use of the name cannot occur even by bypassing the Foundation.”
The Psota Irén Foundation has not been contacted by Spirit Theater in this matter.
Thanks d. Kenga Hazai, President of the Psuta Irene Foundation
For now, the issue is here, that is, we are waiting for it Janos Burgess He testifies that he has the right to use the name Irene Bsuta. Our hope also rests on the fact that the Spirit PSOTA IRÉN Creative Workshop and Mental Center website state: “In our offerings, we focus on human relationships, problem-solving tools, and the importance of self-knowledge.”
