BYD stands for Build Your Dreams, and covers a global company specializing in green energy, electric and hybrid vehicles. This will be Hungary's fifth carmaker – Zsang Bo said at the beginning of the interview szeged.huto.
The investment was announced on December 22, 2023, and the sale was completed on January 30. The factory is expected to break ground in the fall. Foundation and impact works, infrastructure construction, and concrete works are currently underway. Delivery will be in stages. According to Zhang Bo, 150,000 vehicles can roll off the production line each year at first, but the target will be 300,000 in the future.
In terms of capacity, BYD is equal to the combined capacity of Audi and Mercedes. In terms of the number of jobs, the plant will initially employ 3-4 thousand people, and then 10 thousand. From an environmental protection point of view, all EU and Hungarian regulations will be complied with. They want to cooperate with the University of Szeged, but they also count on cooperation from civilians.
A protective forest will be created around the plant, which will act as a buffer zone between the plant and residential areas. However, the batteries will still be manufactured in China, and will only be installed in electric cars in Szeged.
They want to become an integral part of the Szeged community, a player that will play an important role in the life of the city. In the fall, they plan to participate in local events, where the community can get to know the company, its profile and environmental awareness.
