Gazprom has begun connecting the Siberian Electricity and Sakhalin-Khabarovsk-Flagiovostok gas pipeline with the construction of the more than 800-kilometer-long Belogorsk-Khabarovsk section, the gas company announced on Thursday via its Telegram channel.
According to the Russian state-owned company Gazprom, this is the first stage of implementation of the gas pipeline network project for the eastern gas supply system. According to the information, in addition to starting to connect the two gas lines, planning and surveying work is underway in other stages.
The project envisages comprehensive development of gas transportation capabilities in eastern Russia and connecting them to gas infrastructure in the western part of the country.
According to Gazprom, this will increase the reliability and flexibility of gas supplies to Russian consumers and open new opportunities for developing gas supplies to Siberia and the Far East.
Russian President Vladimir Putin announced in 2022 that the program to supply gas to Russian regions should be expanded. He set himself the task of connecting the unified gas supply system in the European part of the country with the gas infrastructure of Eastern Siberia and the Far East – Siberian Power and the Sakhalin-Khabarovsk-Flagiovostok gas pipeline.
