Each year, the Paris Syndrome Report examines which cities in the world have caused the greatest disappointment to tourists, and which have elicited the most positive experiences from visitors. The survey is named after the phenomenon when someone comes to a city with excessive expectations and romantic ideas, and then reality hits them in the face.
Powered by Radical Storage, TripAdvisor’s online reviews analyzer Research According to this year, Orlando, Florida is the most overrated city, while the most pleasant surprise and also the most underrated destination is Budapest.
The poll looked at 9,000 reviews of Orlando and found that one in five reported disappointment. The American city on the list is followed by the Indonesian capital, Jakarta, and the Thai city of Pattaya, where the tenth rating was negative. Budapest, on the other hand, stands in stark contrast to these:
96.17 percent of reviews of tourist arrivals in the Hungarian capital reported both positive and disappointing experiences.
Budapest tops the list, followed by Brussels, with a score of 96.04 percent, while Zurich ranks third.
Budapest, the champion of underrated cities, was called “brilliant” in 3.46 percent of ratings, and “beautiful” in 2.2 percent. The background may be, while Budapest is really beautiful, the picture of our country is not very good, and tourists are faced with something very different from what they were prepared for before the trip.
In the search, 826,292 reviews of 100 large cities were analyzed, Russian and Ukrainian cities were missing from the list this time, and Mecca was also omitted, as only Muslims are allowed to enter. In order for a city to be included in the 100 list, a minimum of 1,000 ratings were required.
