Bessie Hendrix was born on November 7, 1907. During her long life, she raised a total of five children, two of whom survived. In January 2022, he became the oldest living US citizen.
When he turned 112, Hendrix revealed to the Fort Dodge Messenger the secret to his long life: He worked hard and tenaciously, said he, stayed away from doctors and refused to give up sweets, and ate a delicious slice of pie whenever he could.

Hendrix graduated from high school in 1926, after which he taught at a country school for four years. She married Paul Hendricks on June 27, 1930. Funeral services for Hendrix will be held at 2:30 pm local time on January 7 at the Lampe and Powers Funeral Home in Lake City.
Funeral director Dana Morris said the ceremony will commemorate Hendrix’s amazing life, including a reading of a diary written by his late daughter.
