As Index reported in January, Ukrainian police removed Hungarian flags from several public institutions based on a recent decree, Munkácsi II. And the principal of Ferenc Rakoczi High School, without justification,
Later, the school reported that the Hungarian national anthem was banned at the opening of the school year, the use of the Hungarian flag and national colors was forbidden, and the principal’s greeting was only in Ukrainian.
At the beginning of September, the school wrote: “One of our vice principals has been dismissed, and they do not consult with the other, but only guide them, bring in another ‘special’ vice principal, and review the school’s documents.” As outsiders look for mistakes, they create a new schedule, because they just want to take lessons from our teachers so they can give them to people from other places.”
Coincidentally, István Šenk went to court in April, which finally ruled that his dismissal was groundless.
At that time, he was reinstated as head of the school with immediate effect, but this only lasted three weeks, after which he was again stripped of the position he had held for 17 years. At the end of September, the school announced that its principal had won the second case of the lawsuit that overturned his first dismissal.
He was not reinstated at that time, as this court decision did not invalidate his second dismissal.

However, Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine, Olga Sztevanysyna, stressed that in her opinion, ethnic minorities should learn the Ukrainian language so that they can take advantage of opportunities throughout the country.
