Hardly a year goes by without another revolutionary solution to weight problems being invented. While different diets and foods are considered harmful or even necessary for weight loss, the dream of easy and quick weight loss may soon come true – that is,
By taking one pill, you can shed several kilograms without sweaty training or self-indulgent diets.
Researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Advancement of scienceAccording to a publication published in All this has already been successfully tested on animals. In their study, pigs that received the pill 20 minutes before eating consumed 40 percent less food than their counterparts in the control group that did not receive the pill.
The new method has not been tested on humans yet, but researchers are optimistic that it can have a clear effect on appetite, so that it could offer a great way to “lose weight or control appetite.”
It tricks our brains
At the current stage of development, a person would need a new pill after each meal, but researchers say they are also working on a version that could stay in the stomach longer and could be operated wirelessly. But how does the vibrating capsule currently work?
After swallowing, the device enters the stomach, where it is activated. There is a gelatinous layer on the edge of the capsule, which is broken down by the acid in the stomach, thus activating the device circuit, which, as a result, begins to vibrate.
The vibration stimulates mechanoreceptors in the stomach wall, which usually only happens if the stomach is already distended after eating a large meal.
In this case, as a result of vibration, the stomach sends signals to the brain, prompting the organ to start releasing hormones, thus signaling satiety – that is, suppressing appetite.
During the research, birth control pills caused the release of the satiety hormone GLP-1, which is also found in currently popular weight loss medications (such as Ozempic). The capsule vibrates in the stomach for about 30 minutes, and in animal studies, it takes four to five days for the capsule to pass through the intestine before it is finally excreted in the stool.
