Index – Tech-Science – Registration for one of the largest torrent sites in the world is open again

You can register again on one of the largest torrent sites in the world, but there is an important detail: potential members must be manually approved by the site moderators.

When he started The Pirate Bay nearly 20 years ago, his main goal was to become a bastion of free and uncensored information. The site flatly rejects takedown requests from copyright holders and allows anyone to upload almost anything to the site.

Since its inception, it has always been free to use and open to the public. Those who wanted to share files just had to register an account, which was easy enough, but it also opened up space for malicious and unwanted content.

This is why the last new user was added to the torrent site on May 22, 2019, and thus new user registration is closed. After that, there were no signs of registrations reopening anytime soon.

The TPB team initially said that the registrations were closed to stem the flow of malicious torrents. This kind of abuse caused a huge problem for the site’s moderators, who asked the main operator to block the recordings temporarily.

The plan was to address the problem by limiting the number of torrent files users can download within a given time frame. This will prevent hundreds of annoying torrents from being uploaded at once, allowing the TPB to accept new users again and continue working as normal.

This temporary solution has been in effect for four years, but registrations open again this week. The recent shutdown of competing torrent site RARBG played a huge role in this.

The site was not in good shape, in addition to new registrations, comments were also blocked, which is likely to remain, but many users did not like it. The site now expects new people to update content, so an update can lead to more active users. However, manual verification is a very time-consuming task, so it is not known when a new user registration will be confirmed.
