It's looking more and more likely that, like last year, Apple will hold a second event this fall, the focus of which might be the Mac and iPad – we show what we can know so far about the devices it's about to unveil, based on the latest leaks. One thing's for sure: Don't buy a new MacBook Pro, 24-inch iMac, Mac mini, iPad mini, or 11-inch iPad in the coming weeks.
Macs also get an M4 chip
As you know, Apple actually unveiled the fourth generation of its M-series chips in the spring, but since then, the M4 chip hasn't been included in any device other than the iPad Pro — but that will change soon. According to one of its most reliable insiders, Mark Gurman, the company will introduce Macs with the M4 chip later this year. As with last year, we'll get three new MacBook Pro configurations this year: we can order the machine with the M4, M4 Pro and M4 Max chipsets if we need the highest performance; Naturally, 14- and 16-inch sizes will still be available.
It may also be a welcome “improvement” that with the new generations, Apple will remove configurations with eight gigabytes of memory from its portfolio – and all M4 devices will be able to start with 16 gigabytes.
However, Apple doesn't stop at laptops. A completely redesigned Mac mini, smaller and thinner than ever, will come with M4 and M4 Pro chips, and the 24-inch iMac will also receive the bloody M4 update – although Apple isn't touching on the design, at most the colors may change.
The iPad mini will be very powerful
The iPad mini was last updated by the company in September 2021, which was also the biggest redesign since the iPad mini was introduced in 2012. The sixth-generation model introduced a flat-sided design, a full-frontal display, switched to USB-C, and added Apple Pencil support. 2. According to Mark Gurman, it wouldn't be useful to expect a lot of changes here either, apart from new colors, for example, the design has remained unchanged, so we can mostly talk about updating the specifications here as well.
The 2024 iPad mini will feature either an A18 chip or an M-series chip, bringing its performance to the same level as larger devices.
There's a chance of the latter as iPad minis have always followed the iPad Air family in terms of specifications, just in a smaller size. Based on the fact that the new iPad Airs have an M2 chip, there's a particularly high possibility that the iPad mini will get it as well; Thus turning it into a very compact yet extremely powerful tablet. It is certain that the new iPad mini will also support the Apple Pencil Pro, but it is still questionable where Apple will place the front camera – according to surveys, more people use the “mini” model in portrait orientation than in landscape orientation.
It is not yet known exactly when Apple will unveil the new devices, but according to insiders, October 29 is one of the most likely dates – depending on this, we can expect official invitations to be sent around October 15.
