The world's fourth most valuable company, Google, announced that it has laid off hundreds of employees from its voice assistant group, as well as from among its developers – mainly affecting those who were responsible for the development of the Pixel, Nest and Fitbit, writes Reuters.
Google acquired Fitbit in 2021, but it has also continued to develop its own Pixel Watch products – these watches easily outperform Fitbit products and even some Apple Watch models.
We began making changes to many of our teams in the second half of 2023 to become more efficient, perform better, and align their resources with the highest product priorities. Some teams continue to make these types of organizational changes, which include the global elimination of some roles
– said a Google spokesman.
The spokesman did not specify the number of people affected by the layoffs, but in January of last year, Google announced that it planned to lay off 12,000 employees, representing 6 percent of its global workforce.
