Security is a never-ending task for Apple, and on Wednesday it took it to a whole new level — at least for iMessage.
In the beta version of iOS 17.4, the innovative protocol called PQ3 is already live, which in theory – and according to Apple in practice – also provides protection against quantum computers, so the platform is more protected against malicious hackers than ever before.
The company refers to PQ3 as the most significant security update in iMessage history.
“We're introducing the most significant cryptographic security update in the history of iMessage, PQ3, a groundbreaking post-quantum encryption protocol that improves end-to-end messaging security. PQ3 is the first messaging protocol to achieve what we call Level 3 security, providing protocol protection superior to all other messaging apps in use.” Widely” –editing The company added that to the best of its knowledge, PQ3 has the strongest security features of any other scalable messaging protocol in the world.
As mentioned, the new protocol will be released in conjunction with iOS 17.4, which is currently only available to beta testers.
The public version – the developments of which we have already reported several times – is expected to be published in the first half of March. You will not feel the presence of PQ3 in any way, because it will do its work in the background, and in addition to iPhones, it will cover the entire ecosystem, so the iMessage application available on iPadOS, macOS and watchOS will also be updated to a new protocol.
