Despite the huge interest, the United States and Canada aren’t the only ones taking the lead. Although we hear a lot about the famous lakes in both countries, they only manage to get three spots in the top ten together.
The Lake Tahoe, USA, which is located between California and Nevada, won the popular photography competition.
The body of water remaining from the last ice age is located at an altitude of 1,897 metres, and its bottom reaches a depth of 501 metres.
the reconnaissanceBased on Instagram data, they collected the total number of people who shared a photo of a particular still water using a hashtag, and then tried to determine which destinations were the most popular and engaging. Lake Tahoe collected a total of three million hashtags.
Lake Superior in the United States (one of the Great Lakes) is also on the list, at number six, and Canada's Lake Louise is also among the favorites, at number five, but the list is dominated by the still waters of Europe.
Apart from America, there are also popular places in Italy.
Three Italian lakes (Lake Como, Lake Garda, Lake Braes) and two Scottish locations (Loch Lomond, Loch Ness) were included in the top ten most photographed lakes, with Lake Constance, on the borders of Germany, Switzerland and Austria, coming in second. Put it in its pocket. At over 500 square kilometres, it is the third largest lake in Central Europe after Lake Balaton and Lake Geneva.
Only one site outside North America and Europe was included in the Instagram-based study (which may skew the international picture a bit): China’s West Lake ranked seventh. The 6.5-square-kilometre surface lake was declared a World Heritage Site in 2011, and was said at the time to embody the perfect balance between nature and man. Its private world has had a major influence on Chinese poetry, painting and garden art.
