TikTok will now automatically notify users when they view content created by artificial intelligence (AI), the social media platform announced on Thursday, according to MTI.
According to the statement, this is necessary because “AI is also capable of creating content that looks amazing – text, images, audio and video material – that can confuse or even mislead users if they are not informed that the content in question was created by AI.”
TikTok will provide the affected content with a label created for this purpose, so that the user on certain Internet pages knows before downloading that he is dealing with content generated by artificial intelligence.
The social media platform also reminded that internet companies such as Google, OpenAI, Adobe and Microsoft are already members of C2PA, which was established in 2021 and oversees the authenticity and provenance of content. These companies are already using this automatic labeling procedure, they said in the announcement.
TikTok is joining the alliance because “transparency is very important” to its users, said Adam Presser, TikTok’s chief operating officer.
He stated that since September last year, the company's own software, TikTok, has been using artificial intelligence to warn its users when content created within its app has been modified.
