The 1% donation remains an important source of income for NGOs in Hungary. The existence of many organizations depends on individuals owning 1 percent of their taxes. The biggest surprise was caused by the Party System Cash Content Creation Foundation, which raised for the first time this year and immediately reached third place in terms of amount with 191 million forints.

As it turned out, the amount provided to the first 20 organizations managed to increase in all cases compared to 2022.

However, organizations with which serious transparency problems arose also received significant sums.

Most important data:

  • Total advertisers this year: 1,819,715, an increase of 26 percent from the previous year.
  • Average number of donors per NGO in 2023: 62 donors.
  • Most of them offered 1% to the National Rescue Service Foundation, a total of 40,556.
  • – Number of beneficiary civil society organizations: 29,505, an increase of 710 compared to last year.
  • The average amount of donations per NGO has been increasing for years, and this year it reached 519,576 HUF, which is 139,439 HUF more than last year.
  • The Demeter Foundation entered the top 20 for the first time, moving from 35th to 20th, doubling the amount of donations and the number of donors.
  • In 2022, 5,385 organizations from Budapest and 28,792 from rural areas received offers, and the ratio did not change much in 2023: 5,568 from Budapest and 29,503 from rural areas.
