Indicator – Economy – The Energy Office imposed a fine of 56 million Hungarian forints on several service providers

The Hungarian Energy and Utilities Regulatory Office (MEKH) has issued a warning to one service provider for violating service quality requirements, imposing a fine of 56 million Hungarian forints on three, MEKH told MTI on Tuesday.

The 2023 investigations established, based on data provided by licensees, that providers responded to consumer inquiries in many cases late and thus failed to adhere to the deadlines set out in the MEKH decisions. The essence of the latter: the service provider must respond to all documented customer inquiries within 15 days.

It was noted that the Ministry of Electricity and Energy, in its capacity to protect consumers, constantly verifies the fulfillment of quality of service requirements for natural gas and electricity license holders.

They noted that at the beginning of the year, the office last checked the fulfillment of service quality requirements for 2022 and revealed deficiencies: it then imposed fines totaling 129 million Hungarian forints against six licensees.
