Zabad Europe learned that the European Commission was already working on the ninth sanctions package under pressure from Poland and the three Baltic states. The Polish-Baltic draft seen by the newspaper would ban cooperation with the Russians in the field of nuclear energy and close existing loopholes.
According to reports, decision makers have recently begun to compile the ninth package of sanctions. However, it should be noted that after the eighth EU sanctions package, the following sentence was also included in the Union’s Final Statement:
The European Union has stressed further restrictive measures against Russia and is ready to do so.
Subsequently, it was activated by the previously mentioned member states, and the proposals for the ninth package of sanctions had already been submitted to representatives of the European Commission so that negotiations between member states could begin. After that, the ninth package can be officially distributed.
As already mentioned by the index mentionedForeign Minister Peter Szijjarto has already indicated that some EU countries are already talking about the ninth package of sanctions and sanctions affecting nuclear energy. Then the foreign minister made it clear that Hungary would not support this.
Several areas will be affected
The free europe According to him, four main topics will be affected by the following punitive measures, which will also be expanded to areas previously ignored by some member states, so there is still little chance of gaining unanimous support for the ninth Russian sanctions package. The main directions of sanctions may be as follows:
- In the new package, cooperation with Russia in the fields of nuclear energy and fuel will be prohibited. So punitive measures affecting the energy sector will be extended – this would make PAX expansion virtually impossible. The Hungarian government will almost certainly veto this.
- Diamond imports from Russia will be sanctioned and a complete ban will be imposed along with imports of steel products. So far, Belgium has opposed these actions in the diamond case, and Italy in the steel case.
- The import of liquefied natural gas products from Russia will also be banned.
- Further restrictions will also be imposed on EU exports of technology services and computer software, for example, will be banned.
- They will ban every ship and watercraft owned by Russia from docking on the shores of the European Union.
- They will exclude EU citizens from serving on the boards of Russian state and private companies, and also prevent legal entities registered in the EU from accepting money from Russian state agencies or oligarchs.
- According to the proposal, the European broadcasting rights of three Russian TV channels, including Russian Channel 1, will be blocked.
However, it is not yet known which of these proposals will be implemented.
