AMD has been shipping its mobile processors with improved GPUs for years, and it looks like Intel may soon be on the cusp of a similar move.
08/28/2024 – Both Intel and AMD are dividing their resources into several segments. The desktop segment is the most important, but processors for mobile devices should not be forgotten either. Both manufacturers are preparing for the new generation in full swing, and Zen 5 chips have also been available in AMD's lineup for some time. It's no secret that Intel will unveil the next generation of Lunar Lake in September 2024. We will see it in lightweight laptops, mini PCs, and handheld consoles.
If we are to be completely honest, the computing power achieved in recent years has not been fully exploited. In the case of a properly balanced PC or laptop, the GPU really sweats, while the processor does its job somewhere between 20-50%. Manufacturers have also realized this, having allocated a special role to the integrated graphics cores since the beginning of 2020. For a long time, the integrated GPU was enough for maximum browsing, but AMD's 2024 Radeon 890M is practically at the desktop level. And it seems that Intel will not be left out of the party either, the upcoming development could mean a lot.
Intel's next-generation integrated graphics can give you desktop-level performance.
The integrated graphics unit that carries the Intel Arc 140V gave us a small idea of what the next generation will be capable of. Under the hood, the Xe cores used in the Arc Alchemist series are no longer in use, but their newer versions, the Xe2 cores, are. Based on the benchmarks, the GPU is on par with the desktop GeForce GTX 1650, an entry-level desktop video card. All this was achieved with a consumption of 17-30 watts, so there can be no complaints about efficiency either. We hope that external tests with a lot of games will also arrive in 2-3 weeks. However, one thing is for sure, graphics accelerators alongside processors will become much more powerful in the coming period. You don't have to wait long for Intel's dedicated video cards either, with the Battlemage generation set to arrive in late 2024, early 2025. In these, the Xe2 cores will also be doing the math.
