Einride exploded into the public consciousness in 2018 when it unveiled its driverless and fully self-driving truck, the T-pod. Since then the special transport vehicle has been perfected and tested in many parts of the world. Moreover, in principle, it can already be taken from him. A purely electric vehicle can cover 130-180 kilometers on a single charge and can transport a total of 16 tons of cargo. In other words, it can be ideal as a distribution truck or as a tireless means of transportation for logistics parks. But only where permitted by law.
Since the introduction of the self-propelled truck, Einride has expanded its portfolio and is no longer involved only in the development of self-driving vehicles, but also in the sale of electric trucks, such as the electric Scania. The company is essentially a third party between truck manufacturers and operators, as they already have their own communications platform called Saga, which allows for optimal operation of electronic truck fleets.
The Swedish start-up has recently attracted attention with its “mega” electric truck sales. In the United States, for example, 200 BYD 8TT semi-trailers were ordered in February, which is the largest order for the Chinese manufacturer to date, excluding Asian markets. Einride is also active on this front in Europe, where 120 eActros were purchased last December. The Swedish startup’s biggest success to date is the collaboration with Maersk, one of the world’s largest shipping companies, which will deliver 300 DAF electric trucks to the Danish company by 2025.
Does one just blink that there really is such a demand for electric trucks already? This startup operates at scales that are no more than a dream come true for truck manufacturers. This is because most operators are only becoming familiar with electric propulsion, so they only order small quantities from European commercial vehicle manufacturers who already have a mature e-truck.
No wonder, then, that truck manufacturers are eager to work with an efficient startup that can stand up to its fairness as a distributor. Einride recently announced that it can help European partners deliver 110 electric Scania trailers. Although detailed technical data for these vehicles has not been published, it is certain that all versions of the fleet will be equipped with the Saga telematics platform. Currently, this deal is the largest order for a heavy-duty electric truck in Europe (the eActros has a total weight of “only” 26 tons). There is not much to wait for the release of trailers designed to transport regional cargo with a day cabin, according to the start-up, they will be available in the second half of the year and in the first half of 2023.
Scania is working on more and more categories of electric trucks. Testing of a 64-ton tanker and a 49-ton XT dump truck has recently begun.
