This year’s Bolyai Prize was received by Stépán Gábor Széchenyi, award-winning mechanical engineer, university professor and regular member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences from Katalin Novák at the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.
The President of the Republic said that Gabor Stepan is a vivid example of the fact that the engine of science is curiosity, which comes from childhood, and the cradle of science is also the family, because the task of parents is not only to satisfy, but also to preserve and nurture childhood curiosity, and thus educate future scientists.
Katalin Novak spoke about the mission of scientists to uncover the scientific truth, to spread it widely, and the members of society can decide which of the facts presented by science they want to live with and which they do not.
We should also be able to forgo a scientific opportunity if we see that it will cause more harm than good to society
– said Novak, who believes that the nation that will be able to compete will not be the one that uses all the scientific capabilities known at the moment, but the one that can make wise decisions about what to live and what not to live. (MTI)
